Cooking

Nutrition and healthy eating are fundamental elements of self care. Having basic cookery skills, understanding food hygiene and safety in the kitchen, allows young people to develop healthy relationships with food and allows them to start taking steps towards independent living.

What’s cooking?

Healthy relationships with food are developed by allowing young people choices, looking at ‘safe foods’ and healthy foods and find recipes to explore and discover.

For some young people cooking is purely to learn skills to gain independence and build confidence.

Some of our maths sessions are conducted whilst cooking, learning about measurements, ratios, conversions.

Young people can also explore their culinary skills when working towards their Arts Award, providing the cookery shows a design element or artistic flair beyond the taste and basic presentation of the dish.

We work with young people to achieve CPD and AQA Awards in Food Hygiene and Health and Safety.

With the cost of living crisis we also work with young people to prepare nutritious and filling meals on a limited budget.

Qualifications

The Arts Award qualifications are designed to inspire learners to grow their arts and leadership talents. Supporting and encouraging learners of all levels and abilities and from all backgrounds and cultures to engage and participate in the arts.

We offer courses accredited by CPD that cover a wide aspect of food hygiene and safety to ensure that our students have all the knowledge to work in the food and drinks sector.

The Unit Award Scheme (UAS) is a unique way to record learner achievement. Its ‘can do’ approach is used to boost student confidence, engagement and motivation.
